Different Types of Student Visa in USA, UK, Australia and Canada!

A Student Visa is a non-immigrant visa that is generally issued by the government of the country where the student is going for higher studies. The student visa doesn’t require obtaining citizenship as they are temporary visas issued in the interest of Educational purposes. Every country has immigration laws specific to their policies and regulations.

Student Visa types are the basis of two broad distinction points:

  1. On the basis of programme duration

  2. On the basis of the type of program/student

    Document verification is one of the important aspects while obtaining a Student Visa. Some of the requirements for the same:

  • Valid Passport

  • Proof of a bonafide students

  • Financial clarity

  • Language proficiency

Student Visa for the USA

The different types of visa that could be issued for students going to the USA for higher studies are:

  1. F1 Visa- The F Visa is for students pursuing academic studies. F1 students need to maintain the minimum course load for full-time student status.

  2. J1 Visa- This visa is issued to students who need to obtain practical training that is not available in their home country for the completion of their degree.

Both F1 and J1 Visa holders are capable of obtaining employment during their stay in the US.

  1. M1 Visa- The M1 Visa is issued to ones who are going to attend a non-academic or vocational school. They are not permitted to work during their course of studies.

Student Visa for the UK

The categories of Visas that one can apply for under Tier 4 of the points-based system:

  1. Tier 4 (General) Student Visa- Applicant must be at least 16 years old.

  2. Tier 4 (child) Student Visa- This category is for children between 4 to 15 years of age going to the UK for their primary education.

Student Visa for Canada

Along with a study permit, one also needs to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) for entry in Canada. As an Indian student, you can get your study permit faster through the Student Direct Stream (SDS).

Student Visa for Australia

If you are a student from India aspiring to obtain a visa for Higher Education in Australia, the subclass 500 student Visa is the one necessary. This Visa can be renewed every year depending upon the necessity of course period extension.
